The Ponte Nórdica Festival brings the movie ‘Queen of Hearts’ to Brazil
The Sundance Film Festival Audience Award winner movie will premiere September 12th on various movie theaters across the country.
The Scandinavian films festival Ponte Nórdica develops in association with Diálogos Nórdicos, its first edition in 2016, bringing 16 films to the Brazillian audience. The next edition of the Ponte Nórdica Festival will be in 2020. This year, the festival presents, along with the distributor Arteplex Filmes, the premiere of the biggest North European movie of the year of 2019, Queen of Hearts, directed by May el-Toukhy. The movie premiered internationally in January, at the Sundance Film Festival, and has already taken part in 8 other international film festivals, like Goteborg Festival, having collected 6 awards internationally.
This year, the Danish Cultural Institute got associated with distribuitor Arteplex and Espaço Itaú de Cinema to organise this premiere. On September 6th, there will be held a premiere and press conference event, with participation of the Swedish actor Gustav Lindh. The audience will consist mainly of invites, but there’s a chance for ticket sales. You can be notified of these tickets on the Espaço Itaú de Cinema website.
The movie addresses the formation of a tragic family secret. Anne (award-winning Trine Dyrholm) is a dedicated and talented lawyer who is specialized to work with children and young people, lives with her husband Peter (Magnus Krepper) and their twin girls. Everything seems to be the perfect family constellation, towards the arrival of her teenage stepson (Gustav Lindh).

To the director, Queen of Hearts shows a powerful woman who makes a series of irreversible decisions with unimaginable consequences for herself and the people she cares about. “The film explores how far we are willing to go, once the choices are made, to protect ourselves and maintain the status quo in our existence,” states May.
