Sisters Hope in Brazil

In January 2025, the highly acclaimed, award-winning Copenhagen-based performance group Sisters Hope brought their visionary project, Sisters Sensing (the World), to Brazil. As part of their global initiative, the project unfolded in the streets of São Paulo, South America’s largest city.

The project consisted of a poetic twelve-hour performative walk, an artist talk, and an immersive workshop. This event marked the Brazilian chapter of Sisters Hope’s long-term collaboration with the Danish Cultural Institute (DCI), which seeks to explore the potential of a Sensuous Society across different cultural contexts. By weaving together art, movement, and sensorial exploration, the project examined how a more poetic and sensuous approach to life could contribute to a sustainable future.

Throughout the performative walk, the group traversed a wide range of urban environments, from affluent neighborhoods to informal settlements and industrial areas. Along the way, a local performer joined the group, enriching the experience with their presence and perspectives. Every hour, a ten-minute performance was staged, filmed, photographed, and live-streamed to a global audience, allowing viewers worldwide to connect with the unfolding journey in real time.
The walk concluded with a lecture at SESC 24 de Maio Cultural Center, placed in the historic center of the city.
